HFTP's techology event

When looking for something to write about for my blog, I randomly "googled" the words "hospitality" and "technology". Oddly enough, the first thing I came across was an article on how The Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) are going to host a fund raising event on June 19, 2006. It is an elegant dinner that will raise money to benefit HFTP-supported hospitality schools. It will be held at the Marquette Hotel, a Four Diamond AAA Hilton Hotel in Minneapolis, Minn. The event will coincide with the 2006 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC), on June 19-22 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. As stated before all profits of the fund-raising event will be equally distributed to hospitality schools that are supported by HFTP. As I continued to read the article it stated that The University of Delaware was one of these schools. I thought thas was really cool to see that we were a part of the schools. And to tell you the truth, the first thing that I thought was that, I bet Dr. Cihan, would be attending the event. I just wanted to share this with everybody, because this is something that is a great supporter of our program. The HFTP is dedicated to providing educational support to the hospitality industry, and it was cool to see that we are getting that support! Yay for us!

MAI Technology

When browsing through the internet I came acroos a really cool way to advertise your hotel or restaurant. It is an interactive software program made by MAI Technology called Vistarama. Vistarama can design and create an interactive tour of your facility. I think is is relly good because I know when I was searching for a place to stay in Florida for Spring Break I was skeptical of certain hotels. I wasn't convinced that the "Paradise Hotel" wouldn't turn out to be a "hole in the wall" just by their small ad on the internet. With Vistarama software developing this interactive tour for your facility, that is available for the public on your website, it allows prespective clients to see what your place has to offer. That way you don't get to your vacation spot and realize that the pictures on the website were really misleading. You can take a look at all the different parts of the hotel before you commit to a reservation. Also the Vistarama software can provide your website with maps of your facility, animation, sounds in addition to the full interactive tour. I think this technology is really good for the Hospitality industry, exspecially if your facility ahs a lot to offer and you want the public to see that without having to come to the actual location.

Tilde's Blog # 1 VingCard

When searching on the internet I came across a new or newer concept of secrurity. It is called VingCard. It stated that the first Signature VingCard installation was in Europe at the Mavida Balance Hotel and Spa in Australia. I found it interesting because, from a managers point of view, it seems like a good idea to invest in for a hotel property. For several reasons it would be beneficial for a property as well as the guests of that property. First it has an aesthetically pleasing design, it is very easy to use, and it requires very little hardware for installation. VingCard has a variety of looking systems. It has the traditional magnetic-stripe room lock, it has the SmartCard lock and also it has the PMS interface hotel lock system. VingCard has a locking system that will fit all different types of hotel security needs. The Mavida is very pleased with their choice and feel that is has given their hotel and guests a peace of mind. I think that is very important for a hotel so this would be a company I would definitely pursue if I were the owner of a hotel property. They ahve sold over 30,000 lock systems to different properties, so they must be efficient locking systems.
